Okay, it's a bit of a cliche now to mention Hippoc Okay, it's a bit of a cliche now to mention Hippocrates' quote: "All disease begins in the gut"...but hear me out! 

When you have a concept that's overused as much as that quote, the question to ask yourself is "am I really applying this principle to my life?".

Okay, so you "get it" that the gut is important for overall wellness and the mitigation of just about every known chronic disease, well...: 

◼What am I doing on a daily basis that reflects that understanding? 

◼Where are the opportunities for improvement?

The gut protects us from outside invaders, helps us absorb nutrients from our food, trains our immune system, creates B-vitamins, hormones, neurotransmitters, antioxidants, and other metabolites, and helps detoxify numerous wastes.

A large number of people are vulnerable to vitamin A large number of people are vulnerable to vitamin A deficiency without even realizing it, up to 45% or more to be exact.

This is because many of us one or two slow copies of the gene responsible for converting beta-carotene (vitamin A precursor from plants) to the fully formed vitamin A that our body needs.

I will take a pre-formed Vitamin A supplement along with other fat-soluble vitamins and omega 3's to support the bigger picture of Vitamin A dynamics i the body.

Food sources may include liver, eggs, and other organ meats, as well as other sources, not exactly staples in most diets.

While vegans/vegetarians can be at most risk, 45% of humans have some slowing in their ability to convert beta-carotene. Too much beta-carotene (and a slow ability to convert it) may actually become a health risk...

There are ways to supplement with Vitamin A that bypasses conversion issues. I use a manufactured vitamin A, so it is affordable, clean, and is suitable for vegans/non-vegans both. We also carry vegan Vitamin D for those wanting to supplement together.

While high intakes of Vitamin A may pose some health risks, the upper limit per day is 10,000 IU and most people are not getting enough. I will take 5,000 IU per day to allow from some natural food sources and potential added dose from other supplements (including beta-carotene).

If you're pregnant or may become pregnant, you'll want to discuss with your health professional what intake might be right for you.
